TATA JODA Iron Mines, Odisha

Area: 8 acres

Client: TATA Iron & Steel Mines

Architect: Indranil Baksi & Associates

Location: Joda Iron Mines, Odisha

Status: Tender Stage

Year: 2017- present

The landscape initiative for TATA Joda Mines is based on efficient circulation and pleasing aesthetics through a busy industrial mine- a place enveloped in factory dust and smoke. Two grand feature walls direct movement around the landscape- one in the form of a line and the other, an arc.
The contours on the site have been effectively utilized to create planter beds, large resting mounds, water features and a naturally replenishing water body-all of which shall serve to bring visual respite amongst the heavy machinery present on the site. A large playground and a lake-side walk have also been incorporated to create leisure functions for the working members of the iron mines.
An extended office block which was added later to the project included a central island which allows a roundabout to vehicles plying in that area. It also gives pedestrians the facility to navigate through it or to use it as a seating space.
